Hey Morris County residents! Passing by the Rockaway Mall on your way home from work today? You might hit a little bit more traffic than usual…like two thousand motorcycles more than usual! Today is the 28th annual Gooch’s Garlic Run, a charitable motorcycle run for children in New Jersey with terrible illnesses. The event is being put on by Simon Properties, who own the mall, along with the New Jersey Chapter IX of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. This year’s ride will benefit three children. Anthony L. Longo is a six year old from Wantage, diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, who is being treated at Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown. Aryanna Tamsyn Brahs, a two year old out of Newton, is battling Treacher Collins Syndrome, a developmental issue affecting the bones and tissues of the head. Joseph Hayden is a sixteen year old from Franklin, who is struggling with Congenital Hypoventilation Syndrome and Hirschprung Disease. Joseph receives treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. With these children in mind, over two thousand riders will leave from the Rockaway mall at 6:30 pm tonight, and travel thirty miles along routes 80, 280, and 21, before reaching their destination; Ferry Street, in the Ironbound District on Newark. In addition to Simon Properties, sponsors for the event include Hilton Garden Inn, Rider Insurance, Hot Rods Real Pit BBQ, Tri-State Rentals, Costco, Lakeland Bus Lines, Coca-Cola Bottling of Parsippany, Shop Rite (Glass Gardens Inc.) and F&S Distributors. Starting at 4:30 this afternoon, visitors can enjoy food, vendors, and music while waiting for the big send off for all of the riders. So if this is part of your normal commute, better plan another way home, or stop by and support the cause!
